The Blessed Days of Dhul Hijjah: A Time for Giving, Worship & Reflection

  • June 19, 2025

As we enter the sacred month of Dhul Hijjah, one of the most spiritually significant times in the Islamic calendar, it serves as a chance for us to draw closer to Allah SWT through good deeds.

What is Dhul Hijjah?
Dhul Hijjah is the 12th and final month of the Islamic year. These are the days when pilgrims perform Hajj, concluding in the Day of Arafah (9th), followed by Eid al-Adha (10th).

The first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are among the most blessed, with the Prophet SAW saying:

“There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days…” (Sahih al-Bukhari).

What Can We Do During These Days?
Whether you’re performing Hajj or not, these 10 days offer countless opportunities to earn Allah SWT pleasure:

  • Increase in worship – Prayer, reading Qur’an, dhikr and seeking forgiveness.
  • Fasting – Especially on the Day of Arafah, where fasting expiates the sins of the previous and coming year.
  • Giving charity – This is a powerful time to give, as deeds are multiplied.
  • Sacrificing (Qurbani) – A Sunnah act to honour the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim AS.

Why Give Zakat and Sadaqah Now?
Giving during Dhul Hijjah multiplies your rewards. It is a beautiful time to:

  • Fulfil any outstanding Zakat
  • Give Sadaqah to support those in need
  • Contribute to Qurbani projects that provide meat to families who otherwise cannot afford it

A Final Reminder
Not everyone has the opportunity to perform Hajj—but we can all strive to make the most of these days with intention, effort, and heart. As the Prophet SAW taught us, even small acts are deeply meaningful in these blessed days.
